Our Story

Waiora Wellness Centre – The Spring of Life
At the heart of South Auckland, something special is growing — Waiora Wellness, a place where health and healing flow together like the waters of a pure spring.
In te ao Māori, Waiora speaks to the source of wellbeing — the pure waters of life that sustain our body, mind, spirit, and whānau. It’s more than a name; it’s a sacred concept, reminding us that true healing begins when we return to what nourishes us: connection, culture, and community.

Four Years in the Making
Waiora Wellness is the result of four years of vision, hard work, and deep partnership. It brings together the strengths of:

  • Te Ora Puāwai, a kaupapa Māori and Pacific health and social service provider rooted in cultural values and community upliftment.

  • Great South Health Medical, a trusted clinical provider committed to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare.

Together, we are creating a centre like no other — a place where Māori and Pacific worldviews shape the care we provide

A Space Created for You

Our Kaupapa, Our Philosophy

At Waiora, we honour the body as the vessel through which we experience life. We support physical wellbeing not just through clinical care, but through connection to whenua, kai, movement, and rest. Recognising that health is lived every day, we partner with AOX Fit and other gym and movement-based providers to ensure our whānau have access to safe, inclusive spaces to strengthen their tinana. These partnerships encourage lifelong habits and help build confidence, resilience, and physical strength in a culturally grounded way.

Communication, Coordination, Navigation are our pou or guides for the following areas.

Body (Tinana)

Mind (Hinengaro)

Spirit (Wairua)

At Waiora, we honour the body as the vessel through which we experience life. We support physical wellbeing not just through clinical care, but through connection to whenua, kai, movement, and rest. Recognising that health is lived every day, we partner with AOX Fit and other gym and movement-based providers to ensure our whānau have access to safe, inclusive spaces to strengthen their tinana. These partnerships encourage lifelong habits and help build confidence, resilience, and physical strength in a culturally grounded way.

Wairua is central to wellbeing. It speaks to purpose, connection, and belonging. Our approach is whānau- and nurse-led, meaning every engagement centres manaakitanga, trust, and cultural understanding. We support spiritual health through tikanga-based practices, access to spiritual guidance, and creating spaces for individuals to reconnect with their whakapapa and identity. We honour diverse expressions of spirituality, and believe that when wairua is nurtured, the whole person is uplifted.

We understand that health does not exist in isolation. Access to housing, education, employment, and supportive relationships are essential to wellbeing. Waiora works in close partnership with Te Ora Puāwai to deliver a truly whānau-centred, wraparound model of care that addresses the broader determinants of health. Together, we advocate for systemic change and walk alongside whānau to remove barriers and strengthen opportunities. Our kaupapa is community-led, mana-enhancing, and grounded in equity—because when our people thrive, our whole hapori thrives
